CJSC “Avan Salt Combine” is the only salt producer in the republic. The combine was established in 1967 directly on the salt deposit located in the ecologically clean district Avan in Yerevan.
In 2001, the combine was reorganized into a closed joint-stock company.
The company has two main production units: an enrichment plant for producing high-quality iodized table salt “Extra” and a mining complex for extracting rock salt.
Table salt “Extra,” with a sodium chloride content of at least 99.5%, is produced through the vacuum evaporation of concentrated brine obtained from underground boreholes up to 1,200 meters deep.
At the company’s mine, located at depths of up to 300 meters, feed-grade rock salt is extracted by drilling and blasting for livestock needs (with a sodium chloride content of not less than 93%), as well as ground salt for technical use (with a sodium chloride content of not less than 90%).
Today, Avan Salt Combine has received a “second wind.” New technologies are being implemented, and new packaging lines have been launched. The company operates in accordance with the international food safety management system ISO 22000:2018.
At international exhibitions, the company has repeatedly received honorary diplomas “For High Product Quality.” Since 2002, the combine has been a member of the European Salt Producers’ Association.
Excursions to the Salt Mine of the Combine
CJSC “Avan Salt Combine” organizes unique and exciting excursions to its operating mine located 235 meters underground, where the temperature remains at +19°C throughout the year.
Together with a guide, visitors descend into the mine by freight-passenger elevator, where they can explore the salt mine with its highly effective natural healing properties, admire its exceptional natural beauty, and see both active and previously exploited salt chambers. Visitors can also learn about the rock salt extraction process and see the Republican Speleotherapeutic Hospital located within the mine.
